Rules: Upper Rifle (Steel) Bay

USE OF THE UPPER RIFLE RANGE (STEEL BAY) REQUIRES PASSING A QUALIFICATION TEST AND APPROVAL BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

AUTHORIZED USERS

AN IDENTIFICATION CARD WILL BE ISSUED TO MEMBERS AUTHORIZED TO USE THE TRAINING BAY
This is a member only range, non-member guests are not permitted unless attending a sanctioned event approved by the Board of Directors.
Up to three non-certified members may use the range under the supervision of a single certified member.

FIREARM HANDLING RULES

Shooting, reloading and stoppage clearing must be performed from the “low ready” position.
No muzzle may be pointed above the berm at any time while the firearm is loaded.

Rifles and shotguns are permitted, as are sidearms (pistols), and Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC).
All rifles chambered for cartridges up to and including .308 Winchester are permitted. Magnum-caliber rifles are not permitted: Maximum allowed muzzle velocity is 3,000 fps, regardless of caliber.
All pistols chambered for pistol caliber cartridges up to and including .500 S&W are permitted.
All shotgun chambered for shells up to and including 2 ¾” 12 gauge are permitted.

AUTHORIZED AMMUNITION

Only lead, lead core, and compressed (frangible) ammunition is permitted.
Use of AP, Tracer, bi-metal, steel core (green tip), and solid copper ammunition is strictly prohibited.
Use of steel shot, bismuth, or any non-lead shotgun shot or non-lead slugs (or saboted slugs) is strictly prohibited.

No personal steel may be used on the range.
Authorized range users may bring their own paper/cardboard targets,
Targets must be placed such that they are no higher than 5 feet and rounds passing through them will impact a berm within 10 yards.
Provided rimfire only steel targets must be placed such that rounds fired will impact a berm within 5 yards if the target is missed.
Hinged knocked down and clay shotgun targets may be placed anywhere if using birdshot, otherwise follow the paper/cardboard rules.

TARGET ENGAGEMENT DISTANCES

Pistols/PCC: Steel shall not be engaged closer than 10 yards.
Shotgun: Steel shall not be engaged closer than 10 yards for shot, or 50 yards for slugs.
Rifle: Steel shall not be engaged closer than 50 yards.

Pick up all garbage, paper/cardboard targets, clay pigeons, and shotgun hulls. Return props (Barrels, etc) back to original location, return provided portable targets back to storage box.
Report damage of range equipment to the club president so that it can be repaired.

Pistol: 10 rounds fired from 10 yards, 100% hit rate required on a standard IDPA/IPSC target.
Rifle: 10 rounds fired supported from 50 yards, 100% hit rate required on a standard IDPA/USPSA target.
Shotgun: Not required for qualification.

Violations of any rule will result in loss of range privileges until re-qualified and re-approved by the board.

Qualification test schedules are still being set up by the Board of Directors, until then, contact any Board member directly to schedule a test.
